Protein Packed Mango Lassi
One of the most popular drinks at an Indian restaurant is Mango Lassi. But, it is usually full of added sugar and most places used canned mango pulp. Mangoes in India are incredible sweet and juicy. They are full of pulp without any of the stringy texture. Of course, if you don’t live in a tropical climate, finding mangoes like the ones in India can be difficult.
I wanted to re-create a version of mango lassi with less sugar and more protein. My version has 15 g of protein and does not contain any refined sugar! I love adding hemp hearts as it is a great way to get omega 3 and 6 in your diet while increasing the protein content. I also prefer usMing Greek yogurt to make this lassi which is a fantastic source of vegetarian protein.
Ingredients
2 C of fresh mango
1 C of Greek yogurt
1/2 Tsp fresh cardamom
1 Tsp of rose water
2 Tbs of Hemp Hearts
1/8 -1/4 Tsp of Turmeric
Few strings of saffron
2-4 Tbs of maple syrup
1/2 C of water
Ice
Pistachios and Saffron to garnish (optional)
Method
Add all the ingredients into a high speed blender and blend until everything is well combined. Yes it’s that easy! 😉
I love using my Vitamix to make this Lassi. I simply use the ”Smoothie” setting and its ready in seconds!

Notes:
You need to adjust the sweetness according to the mangoes you use. I had to play around with this a few times. The sweetest mangoes we have found this season is at Costco. Please note that this is specific to Utah. Adding turmeric is optional. Its adds a beautiful yellow color and is a great addition for people struggling with GI inflammation. However, this recipe uses raw turmeric so I would recommend starting with 1/8 of a Tsp. Raw turmeric can have a strong flavor so start with a small amount.
